On May 30, the Sintra Library hosts the «Palavras que Contam» Literary Festival, an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation Portugal in partnership with Sintra Municipal Council, dedicated to promoting creativity, literacy and inclusion through the written word and artistic expression.

The event marks the closing of the «Palavras que Contam» project, developed with young people from different communities in the municipality of Sintra and challenging them to explore writing, illustration and the construction of their own narratives. The work developed over the course of the project now culminates in the publication of the first works by these young authors, edited in partnership with Almedina and presented publicly at the festival.

Throughout the day, the programme brings together activities that connect authors and audiences, promoting dialogue between literature and other forms of artistic creation. Highlights include presentations of the participants’ works, creative writing and illustration workshops, a literary salon, exhibitions and the closing concert with the artist Merai.

Alongside the work carried out with the young authors, the project has also been active in schools, engaging young people in creative experiences linked to writing and illustration, including the creation of mini-zines and small original publications.

Supported by Portugal Inovação Social, under Portugal 2030, the project also benefits from the support of Sintra Municipal Council.

The festival is free of charge, subject to prior registration via the online sign-up form.
